10 Tips From Mom For Cleaning Your Home
Moms are known for their ability to clean almost anything. In fact, if it wasn’t for moms teaching their sons and daughters these skills, the world would be a dirtier place. Follow the tips below from mom to make your home sparkle.
Freshen Your Mattress
To freshen your mattress, mix about 5 drops of an essential oil of your choice with a cup of baking soda. Sprinkle this concoction onto your mattress and allow it to sit for an hour. Vacuum the powder up to freshen and clean your mattress.
Cleaning Your Stove Burners
To remove grease from your stove burners, place them in a Ziploc bag with 1/4 cup of ammonia. Allow the burner to sit in the mixture overnight. Remove the burner from the bag and wipe it clean with a damp sponge.
Cleaning Your Computer Keyboard
To deep clean your computer keyboard, start by using compressed air to blow out any dirt or debris. Next, wipe down the keyboard with rubbing alcohol using a clean cloth. Finish by removing each key and scrubbing them using a toothbrush before replacing them in the correct spot.
Cleaning Your Kitchen Faucet
The aerator on your kitchen sink can get clogged. To clean it, remove it and let it soak in some vinegar. Use a toothbrush to clean off any stuck-on debris. Finally, reattach it.
Cleaning Your Hardwood Floor
To polish your hardwood floors, steep 8 bags of black tea in boiling water for 15 minutes and then allow it to cool. Using a mop, scrub the floor with the black tea, making sure to go in the direction of the grain. In addition to polishing your hardwood floor, the black tea also hides any scratches.
Cleaning Your Coffeemaker
To clean a dirty coffee maker, fill it about halfway with vinegar. Next, run a brewing cycle. Once finished, fill the coffeemaker with clean water and run another brewing cycle, repeating as necessary to remove the vinegar.
Cleaning Your Shower Door
Keep a squeegee on hand and clean your shower doors after each use. Using the squeegee after each use helps to remove any gunk before it has a chance to build up.
Cleaning Your Baseboards
Attach a dryer sheet to a stiff broom to wipe down and clean the baseboards in your home. You can also use a vacuum to remove a majority of the dust that tends to accumulate in this area.
Deep Cleaning Your Air Vents
To deep clean the air vents in your home, wrap a clean cloth around a butter knife. Use the cloth and knife to clean between the slits in the vent. You can also use a cleaning solution in conjunction with this method for even more cleaning power.
Cleaning Between the Glass On Your Oven Door
To clean between the glass of the oven door on your stove, loosen the screws on the inside corners of the door. Use a vacuum to clean out any crumbs accumulated there. If needed, use window cleaner to clean the glass before reassembly. You can also use a grease remover for tougher stains.
While you cannot live with mom forever, you can take her knowledge with you when you move out on your own. The above 10 tips can help you keep your own home clean, just like mom used to with hers.
